Honda Becomes Most Popular Imported Car Brand in S. Korea
SEOUL, Nov 6 Asia Pulse - Japan's Honda Motor Co (TSE:7267) became the most popular brand of imported automobiles in South Korea last month, beating rivals such as Toyota Motors Corp's Lexus and Germany's BMW AG, an industry group said Monday.
It is the first time Honda held the top position in monthly sales of imported cars in South Korea since the Japanese automaker's local launch in May 2004, said the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association.
Last month, Honda sold 409 units, followed by Lexus with 381 and BMW with 370, according to the group.
Officials at both Honda's Korean unit and its public relations agency weren't immediately available for comment.
Overall, sales of imported automobiles in South Korea rose 15.4 per cent in October from a year ago to 2,949 units, thanks to sellers' promotions, the group said.
In the 10 months to October, sales jumped 37.8 per cent from a year earlier to 32,947 units, it said
