The Nissan had excellent performance, being the quickest, lightest, and best handling of the group, with a 7.4 sec 0-60, 16 sec qtr mile at 87 mph (tie for Saturn Aura, hitting qtr mile in 16 sec at 90). Despite the Aura being most powerful at 224 hp, it was the second quickest. The Altima got a good review, for having Z wannabe handling, quickest to 60, and mach 2 sheetmetal. The Altima posted .82 on the skidpad, and showed a 62mph lane change. It broke from 70-0 in 189 feet, behind the Camry's fairly impressive 174 feet. Altima has the best trunk storage at 18 cubic feet.
On the lows were silly start engine, a thrassy engine, and cheap interior. The interior suffered wind whistle and had shades of cheapness. "Ours was spray-bombed in depressing primer gray". They found the start/kill switch very annoying to use. The Altima, even with CVT, also showed the lowest EPA gas mileage ratings, at 23/29, though observed, tied for highest at 24 overall.
The Chrysler was slow and slushy, but good styling and easy folding seats. The camry had a silky smooth engine and excellent interior usage, though defined blandness. The Saturn had good styling, a nicely priced V6, but a poor interior at close inspection and the worst gas mileage. The Kia topped Toyota in fit, finish, and quietness, and was a great value with alot of features, though was plagued by spongy suspension and a boring exterior. The Honda, despite a dated interior, had heavenly steering, a great engine, no wasted space, and an overall great value.
